Vox Studio moved Drift, its AI-powered media generation app, from a single server to a modern, fully automated AWS environment with Sufle. The production cutover took about 15 minutes, well ahead of the planned window, and releases that once took the whole platform offline now reach users in under 5 minutes with no downtime. Today, Sufle keeps Drift running at its best through Managed Cloud Operations.
Vox Studio builds AI tools for image and media production. Its app, Drift, turns user photos into new images and media through customizable templates, automating image and media production with AI.
As Drift's audience grew, so did the volume of heavy image and media processing behind every generation, and with it the demands on the platform underneath.
Drift's backend ran on a single server, with every component sharing the same constrained environment. That setup carried the product through its early growth, but it could no longer keep pace with rising user volume and media workloads.
Three challenges made modernization urgent:
Downtime and crash risk. With no redundancy, even a minor technical failure could take the whole platform offline.
Outages during releases. Every new feature or update required taking the system down, cutting off user access.
Data organization and operating costs. User data and general content were not separated, and unoptimized data access paths led to inefficient resource use.
Left unaddressed, these issues risked lost users and revenue during outages, slower growth as releases stayed disruptive, and rising cloud costs and security exposure as the platform scaled.
AWS offered the flexible, secure and auto-scaling foundation a growing digital platform needs. Decoupled services could expand automatically during traffic spikes or heavy media processing and scale back down once the work was done.
The new environment was built in a brand-new, isolated AWS account and defined entirely as code, so the complete infrastructure can be recreated reliably in a single automated step whenever needed.
Vox Studio chose Sufle for its expertise in cloud architecture modernization, seamless data migration, automated deployment pipelines and infrastructure security. Sufle committed to, and delivered, a smooth production cutover without interrupting daily operations or risking data loss.
Rather than modifying the legacy environment, Sufle built the new Drift platform from scratch, validated it end to end, and only then moved production traffic.
The new environment lives in a dedicated AWS account, with every resource defined as Infrastructure as Code using Terraform and Terragrunt. Each change now goes through a reviewed pull request, and the whole platform can be reproduced on demand.
The network spans multiple Availability Zones, with the application and data layers isolated in private subnets behind an Application Load Balancer. Sufle decoupled the application into separate services for the API, background media processing and scheduled jobs, all running on Amazon ECS with AWS Fargate. Fargate removes server management entirely, and each service scales on its own: when generation volume spikes, processing capacity grows without slowing the API, then scales back once the work is done.
Running scheduled jobs as their own service keeps them isolated from user traffic and peak workloads. Failed tasks are replaced automatically. Amazon RDS for PostgreSQL and Amazon ElastiCache provide managed, encrypted data and caching layers with automated backups.
User-generated media and general template content were split into separate, private Amazon S3 storage areas, delivered to users through Amazon CloudFront. The separation improves both security and caching, while CloudFront takes media delivery off the application and keeps data transfer costs in check.
Sufle rebuilt the deployment pipeline with GitHub Actions. Every release now runs automated tests and security scans, builds a container image into Amazon ECR, and rolls out to production gradually, verifying service health before completing. The pipeline uses short-lived credentials, and all application secrets are moved into AWS Secrets Manager.
Amazon CloudWatch monitoring and alarms give the team visibility into the platform's health from day one.
The migration was planned so that almost all of the work happened before the cutover window. The new environment was fully built and tested in advance, media files were pre-synchronized and verified, and the database migration was rehearsed beforehand.
The legacy environment stayed available throughout as a safe fallback. It was never needed: the final cutover, including validation, took about 15 minutes, far ahead of the planned window, and the application worked correctly immediately after the switch.
"Sufle delivered a seamless, end-to-end service. What I appreciated most was that they took the entire load of the project off my shoulders, with almost no operational details or complex processes for me to deal with. Applying best practices at every step of the architecture and migration gave me great confidence in the future of our system. The team's technical expertise, ownership, and how smoothly and quickly they completed the project were simply outstanding."

The partnership didn't end at go-live. Sufle now runs Drift's AWS environment as a managed service, so Vox Studio's team can stay focused on building the product rather than operating infrastructure.
Proactive monitoring and alerting. Sufle keeps a close watch on the platform's health and acts on alarms before they become user-facing issues.
Incident and change management. Defined processes for responding to incidents and rolling out infrastructure changes safely, backed by documented runbooks.
Continuous cost and performance optimization. Regular reviews keep the environment right-sized as Drift grows, so spend tracks real usage.
Security and best-practice upkeep. The environment stays aligned with AWS best practices as services evolve and new features ship.
By the Numbers:
~15-minute production cutover, far ahead of the planned window
Under 5 minutes from code commit to a verified production release
Zero downtime during releases, previously a full outage on every deployment
100% of the infrastructure defined as code
Fully automated releases with no manual production steps
Release whenever a change is ready. Deployments are automated and verified, with no maintenance windows, so Vox Studio ships new Drift features without interrupting users.
High performance under heavy workloads. With background processing and scheduled tasks isolated from the core application, the platform stays fast even at peak usage.
Resilience by design. The single point of failure is gone. Services run across multiple Availability Zones and recover automatically, with no servers left to manage.
Reduced cloud expenses and stronger security. Right-sized services scale in when idle and optimized data paths eliminate unnecessary spending, while secrets, credentials and media storage now meet top-tier security standards.
A partner for what comes next. With Sufle's Managed Cloud Operations, Vox Studio has an expert team looking after its infrastructure every day, from monitoring and incident response to ongoing optimization, while its own engineers focus on shipping new Drift features.
